Application

This program intentionally seeks high-performing, qualified students and hence sets higher admissions standards. Preference will be given to those applicants who have prior technology and online experience, have focused practicum/project options for their culminating learning experience, have developed prior instruction (curriculum, training, etc.) and whose personal essay matches the requisite components.

Each cohort will consist of 25 highly qualified and motivated students. In addition to submitting standard GPA and test scores, students will be required to submit written essays, a resume, and participate in a phone or face-to-face interview assessing their level of technology skills, knowledge and abilities. The Admissions Committee will be composed of the IDT Program Coordinator and a subset of faculty teaching in the program and from the IDT Program Council.

Application  ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  Students will be admitted to the proposed program in accordance with the policies and procedures outlined in the "Graduate Application Procedures" section of the University Catalog (http://www.fullerton.edu/graduatet).
  Minimum state requirements for admission for conditional classified standing include:
 
  1. Hold a baccalaureate from an accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Have earned a minimum grade-point average of 2.5 in the last 60 term segment units attempted as documented by two official copies of transcripts from all higher education institutions attended.
  3. Good standing at the last college attended.
  Additional requirements for admission to the MS IDT program include:
 
  1. Students must have a minimum grade point average of at least 3.0 in their last 60 term segment units [90 quarter units] of upper division course work (campus MS minimum GPA of 2.5 for last 60 units).
  2. International students from countries where English is not the official language, must have a TOEFL score of 575 (paper-based) or 230 (computer-based).
  3. Submission of a written essay. Students will be given a written essay addressing topics: why they would be good candidates for the program; their experience and/or commitment to online learning environments; how they will manage their time and workload expectations; their level and types of technology skills; their access to technology; their prior experience developing instruction and/or training, potential end-of-program culminating project idea(s) and their future occupational goals.
  4. A resume is also required. The resume will be used to assess the applicant's academic background, technology-related experience, and professional experience.
  5. Successful passage of a phone or face-to-face interview designed to assess their level of technology knowledge, skills, and abilities to be an online learner.
  6. Students must meet the technology computer equipment requirements.

  7. Knowledgeable in the use of a personal computer (PC or Macintosh) including the ability to:
    • (1) locate, create, move, copy, delete, name, rename, and save files and folders on hard drives and on secondary storage devices such as floppy disks;
    • (2) use a word-processing program that runs on a PC or Macintosh computer to create, edit, format, store, retrieve, and print documents;
    • (3) use an electronic mail system to receive, create, edit, print, save, and send an e-mail message with and without an attached file;
    • (4) use an Internet browser to search the World Wide Web; and
    • (5) use databases, spreadsheets and multimedia applications. These skills and knowledge will be ascertained through either a phone or face-to-face interview.

Application  APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND DEADLINES
  The next cohort will be starting in Fall, 2009. Here is how to apply:
  1. Create a free account and complete the online Graduate Admissions Application form for Fall, 2005, at the CSU Mentor site.


    ** Application deadline for Fall 2009 is March 6, 2009.***

    You will find the MS in Instructional Design and Technology program listed under CSU Fullerton.

    Once we have received official notification from Admissions and Records that your application is "in progress",then you can work on the other application requirements bellow.

  2. Submit the following information to the MSIDT Program Coordinator, Dr. JoAnn Carter-Wells, at the address listed below:
    1. RESUME- that includes the applicant's academic background, technology-related experience, and professional experience.
    2. WRITTEN ESSAY- double-spaced essay of no more than 3 pages (Times New Roman 12 pt and 1 inch margins) addressing topics such as why the applicant would be a good candidate for the program; their experience and/or commitment to online learning environments; how they will manage their time; their level and types of technology skills; their access to technology; and their future occupational goals
  3. Make an APPOINTMENT FOR AN INTERVIEW of approximately 1 hour with the program coordinator, Dr. JoAnn Carter-Wells, designed to assess the level of technology knowledge, skills, and abilities to be an online learner per the requirements listed above.

    The deadline for the completion of the resume, professional essay and interview for Fall 2009
    is
    April 10, 2009

    * Please note that the GRE is NOT required for this program

  5. Once you have been admitted to the program, you will need to participate in a mandatory BOOT-UP CAMP - the 1 day "boot-up camp" for the new Fall 2009 cohort will be on Saturday, August 22, 2009. There will also be a mandatory 1 day midpoint checkpoint symposium at the end of 3 term segments. either during August or early/mid September depending on everyone's availability.

    The "boot-up camp" consists of a variety of workshops and experiences acclimating you to the overall progam requirements, faculty and support staff, program technology requirements, library database resources, Blackboard elearning course management system, final project and practicum expectations, bookstore ordering procedures, Titan Card, and software purchases (at a reduced rate). At the midpoint checkpoint symposium, you will review progress to date in relationship to your professional goals and learning outcomes, confirm your final project and practicum activities and work more intensively with a program advisor. These will be held in one of the computer labs in the Education Classroom building.

    These mandatory orientation meetings have been approved by Chancellor Reed with a specific Executive Order that includes fees of $345 for the boot-up camp and $228 for the midpoint symposium. Note that these fees are nonrefundable and will be assessed at the same time that you take the first term segment courses of IDT 505 and EDEL 511.
